Educational Outreach The Jüdische Kulturbund Project’s Educational Outreach Program will be designed for two levels, students in grades 5 to 8 and 9 to 12, across the United States. In addition, a college-level program is planned to stimulate discussion among social and cultural history, theatre, and music students. Curriculum specialists and electronic-media developers will work with content experts to produce materials for the classroom as well as for Web-based and community-based educational programs. The components will be tied to national content standards for Social Studies and/or English and Language Arts, and/or Jewish Studies, which will be reviewed by a panel of content-area experts and practicing educators. The goals of the program are to raise awareness, augment young people’s perception of the past, catalyze students to action, share a little-known inspirational story of the past, and to find contemporary mirrors of the Project experience—perhaps within our own families, communities, and selves. The Educational Outreach program will be released in conjunction with a Traveling Exhibition anticipated for spring of 2005. Components of the program will include the following: Preview Brochure: Designed to build student interest in the program, delivered to 300,000 Music Educators and Social Studies educators 21 days before release of the documentary film. Internet and DVD: The multimedia Internet program and DVD will include the full-length documentary film, music soundtrack, additional cuts, interviews, biographies, and educational materials. Viewers Guide: The Viewer’s Guide will include Historical Background as well as Educational Activities, Experiences, and Extensions targeted at Music educators and Social Studies educators. The booklet will be packaged with teachers’ guides for Music and Social Studies. The booklet will also include a Media Literacy Guide and Glossary. |
