“Hair Stories” is a hybrid, digital storytelling workshop that explores personal, cultural, social, and legal issues about hair. The program launched on January 6th, connecting young scholars from the United States, South Sudan, Sweden, and Kenya.
Our hair can tell many stories, whether it resembles one’s personality or culture. Hair plays a unique role in shaping our identities. Many types, textures, styles, lengths, colors, or possibilities open an outlet for expression through one’s hair. Kultur Stories began to explore this topic through the eyes of students around the globe. We lead two groups. Girls in January and boys in February. Later on, we heard from our leaders and interns, all to understand the implications of gender on one’s experience with hair. Click each image to see more.
The “Hair Stories” program has enlightened our team and the participants. We hope this story inspires you to consider your hair story. How has hair shaped your identity? No matter what the texture, color, style, or length of your hair, you are appreciated for being you.
